About Us

1st Abergavenny Scout Group was founded over 30 years ago, and we belong to the Monmouthshire District Scout Group. As our group has expanded throughout the years, we now have an established and successful Beaver Colony for boys and girls aged 6 – 8 years, which has a healthy waiting list.  We also have a Cub pack for ages 8 – 10½ years, which has a  waiting list.  We then have our Scout Group for ages 10½ – 14 years.   Fourteen year olds can then progress to an Explorer unit of their choice, our nearest being in Gilwern.

Our aim is to continue the success of the last years and continue to develop each child within the Group. At each stage we aim to set challenges that will teach skills and that develop personality and strengths within that young person.

All our leaders are volunteers and give their time freely and unstintingly. All go through training as set up and monitored by the Scouting Association. We are always glad to welcome more leaders to our team and have many areas where individuals of all ages and skills can be of invaluable help.

My  name is Sarah Hoddy and I am the Group Scout Leader of 1st Abergavenny.  I have been involved with Scouting since my children joined Beavers a long time ago, rejoining here in Abergavenny in 2016.  My main role as the GSL is to manage and oversee the group scouting activities and the Adult Leadership team.  To ensure that there are suitable and adequately trained adults and to provide a safe environment for all Scout Group members alike.

If you would like to contact me regarding anything please email me and I will get back to you s.hoddy@monscouts.org.uk.
